Synopsis: Chris Ramseyer previews the new MyDigitalSSD's latest offering, the SATA III (6G) BP3 2.5 inch drive. Click here to see what he has to say.

Taking first look at the latest in the Bullet Proof line of MyDigitalSSD, TweakTown's Chris Ramseyer previews the BP3 SATA III (6G) and puts it to the test! He even comes away wanting more even before the first firmware release. Here are a few of our favorite quotes...

"The first new component is the Phison S8 controller. This is Phison's first SATA III controller and it's built from the ground up to provide performance that breaks past the SATA II barriers while remaining a low-cost option for SSD manufactures."

"The second new component is from Toshiba and this one has us very excited. We've all seen Toshiba Toggle Flash drives that rest at the top of almost every manufacture's product line. Toggle Flash is a premium component and Toshiba recently released a 24nm version of it. This new flash, Toggle 2 is still 24nm, but it increases the performance from 166MB/s to 200MB/s. It should also reduce the power needed for operation, but we've yet to confirm the power draw."

"The read performance of the MDSSD BP3 is quite good coming in just behind the OCZ Octane 512GB by a small amount."

"At first I wasn't all that impressed with the BP3's write speed until I saw the numbers plotted in this chart. Here we see that the BP3 runs very close to the Octane 512GB and even manages to outperform the Crucial m4 512GB."

"IOPS performance is also being addressed in the new firmware. An increase in IOPS will lead to an increase in 4K performance, but here we see that the MyDigitalSSD BP3 is already able to hold its own in 4K read performance."

"The baseline real-world performance in daily use tasks shows the BP3 performing very well. The drive manages to keep pace with several of the other 512GB class drives."

"When you run a larger SSD you tend to copy data to and from the drive more often since you have the space to do so. The MyDigitalSSD BP3 transfer data performance is very good for a budget drive."
