No stranger to MyDigitalSSD portable storage devices, Steve “Chippy” Paine takes a look at how they stack up against other forms of on-the-go storage, including a Transcend 8GB Class 10 SDHC card and an external HDD, to find out what the best option to pair with your Chromebook really is.
The external USB 3.0 devices he chose for this comparison test were MyDigitalSSD’s new BP4 mSATA enclosure, the Bullet Proof M.2 NGFF enclosure, and the OTG Mobile SSD. The OTG as Chippy put it, “is one of the best external storage devices available”.
The SSD of the Lenovo N20P Chromebook that is used for testing only supports USB 2.0, so the transfer results are not optimal. However the MyDigitalSSD USB 3.0 SSDs still performed really well against the SD card and external hard drive, with transfer speeds doubling in the process.
For the performance review, MyDigitalSSD 512GB BP4e mSATA and 128GB Super Cache M.2 SSDs were used in the enclosures, Steve had this to say about his experience: “Quality and speeds can vary depending on what you put in but we’ve been testing the MyDigitalSSD BP4e and the Super Cache 2. It’s impressive."
To improve your time spent with a Chromebook and to get bigger and faster storage, then a MyDigitalSSD enclosure is a good bet: “Recommended for those wanting to carry their video and music collection for offline use on a Chromebook.”
If you don’t have an additional SSD to use with a MyDigitalSSD enclosure, then as Chippy put it, “we recommend MyDigitalSSD storage”. The BP4e is available in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB capacities. The Super Cache 2 is available in 128GB, and 256GB capacities.
