Synopsis: Real World Labs takes another in-depth look at the exclusive MyDigitalSSD SuperSSpeed 128GB Chris Ramseyer Signature Edition SLC SSD now available at MyDigitalDiscount.com.

Late September, shortly after the much anticipated release by MyDigitalSSD and SuperSSpeed, Jon Coulter from Real World Labs wrote a review of the 2.5" SATA III (6G) SLC SandForce drive. As promised, he is back with another! He bought two Chris Ramseyer SSDs to conduct a RAID 0 review. The results were stunning! Here is what Jon had to say:

“This drive based on exotic SLC NAND gave us our best performance to date by any SATA III drive ever.”

“These drives cost $275 which is approximately $1200 less than any other 128GB SLC drive we know of, which in my opinion makes the drives a better value than MLC drives that have never been more than $1 per GB considering that most MLC drives of a similar capacity are rated for about 30,000 times less program/erase cycles and don’t have nearly the performance of this beast.”

“That breakthrough is of course that incompressible data causes virtually no slow down despite the LSI SandForce FPU utilized in this amazing drive.”

"Like we typically see when RAIDing SandForce based drives together the low end really benefits from write caching and we get about 4 to 5 times the performance of a single drive in this area. Top transfer speeds are well over 1GB/s in both directions."

"RAID 0 TRIM is functioning perfectly as you can see the array regains all of its performance when the data is deleted. That is impressive but even more impressive is the performance when the array is 75% filled. 105,000 at 75% full……..WOW! I think it will be awhile before we see this performance equaled. Just so you know the data I am filling the array with is almost all incompressible data which is typically the nemesis of SandForce drives. This test clearly demonstrates like the single drive review did why we consider the S301 the fastest SATA III drive ever made."

As you can see, this drive is the most powerful SATA III drive on the consumer market today. Jon says himself, “The SSD is the most important performance component found in a modern system today. Without it you do not even have a performance system.”
