Comments on MyDigitalSSD mSATA, Half Slim, and 2.5" SATA SSD Firmware Update

I have the 128GB version and still had freezes and hangs under Windows 7 with the 030 firmware (

I only solved it by updating the SSD to the Crucial v4 firmware S5FAMM25.

the updater from crucial doesn't work immediately on my Phison (no valid sata device exists). You have to execute the update manually by typing

dlmc 0x1f0 -master

(change the device address accordingly). After the update (deletes your whole SSD!) I finally have a usable SSD!!

Michael Balensiefer,

Thank you for your comment, for the time being here are the current instructions for changing RAID/non RAID options for the MyDigitalSSD BOOST:

1) Open the drive
2) Access the control panel on the bottom of the board under the SSDs.
3) 1-ON / 2-ON / 3-OFF (1 and 2 pointing at the SSD, 3 pointing away)
4) Plug the drive in and hold the button to the right of the control panel for approx 5 second. This should turn the 2 x 512GB drives into 1 x 1TB drive.
5) Format the drive however you see fit.

I just got a MyDigitalSSD BOOST m-SATA.
There are 3 switches inside. My package came with no documentation. Please tell me what gets me RAID 1. Monday, November 23, 2015 09:28:50

Though we cannot speak for Crucial, the firmware we offer is always the most up to date with Phison controllers.
JNet Sunday, November 22, 2015 06:24:02
Which firmware is newer for the S5 controller.
S5FAM030 on this site or:
S5FAMM25 from Crucial (for the V4) but works for all S5 drives.

The 030 firmware says date September 5, 2012.
The M25 firmware says date February 20, 2013 according to this site:

Can the M25 be newer than the 030? or is the M25 basically the same as the older 025?

I installed on my iMac mid 2011 additional SSD BP4e 240. SSD was erased and formatted FAT because upgrade tool is working on Win ( maybe it is not needed). Now I am trying upgrade SSD firmware from 7.9 to 8.1. I started Win7 on HDD and run (admin mode) MDD FW Upgrade Tool v1.01 (S8M08.1). Upgrade FW identified BP4e and started Force To Boot Mode... after that ISP Burner Code. AP-key NOT
enable by device...
Could you help me. Tuesday, March 24, 2015 09:13:14

Good to hear your success with the FW upgrade and everything is running as it should!

Just wanted to say thanks a million, this firmware upgrade solved the problem of spinning beachballs, freezes and generally poor performance on my 13" 2011 MacBook Pro! Eventually managed to get the firmware upgrade running by putting my Crucial V4 128GB into an old HP nx7400 laptop having created the USB boot disk as described in the tutorial. My Mac now boots much quicker and is useable instantly whereas previously it would take a few minutes before the beachballs disappeared and the system became responsive again. Also virtual machines in Parallels load much faster. I'm delighted to be getting the full speed and benefits SSDs are supposed to bring when they're working correctly! this really works...

first i tried the S5FAM015 from winPE.. and got my SSD bricked.. nothing would see the drive..

then i tried the S5FAM030_FW from the PDF version and got my Corsair Nova 60GB working again...

ar first it didn`t work, but then i read the tutorial better and found the dlmc 0f10 -slave command in ms-dos

it saw my drive and completed the firmware update.

thank all of you guys who made my dead (getting ready to trash it) corsair SSD working again.

Hello again,

about Crucial V4, just found out, that if you set sleep mode in bios to S3, it starts to became slower and slower, bios freezes starts occurring at restarts. Just set it to S1 (just CPU sleep), then it works fine with this firmware (at least it worked for me).

Am sure it's not firmware fault, its bad ssd, as i found out about active garbage collection (as they said to leave ssd with data cable unplugged for 6 hours), it cleans himself. But with this S1 you power down only cpu, thats why he have some idle time to clean.

I hope that will help someone to solve problems with this terrible ssd. Monday, June 2, 2014 08:21:03

We hate to say it but it but boot screen freezing is usually a tell tale sign that your drive has reached the end of the line. We're doubtful much can be done at this point as you're probably going to need a new drive.

It's tough to pinpoint what may have happened, as this firmware is intended to be used exclusively with MyDigitalSSD drives, but with the numerous complaints we've received from Crucial V4 owners this outcome is not out of the ordinary.
Pro Monday, June 2, 2014 03:06:46
My last resort was to upgrade my V4 64GB to unofficial firmware. They refused to replace or refund. So i flashed this fw, it made my ssd finally working as it should. No more freezes, lags. Thank you.

But after week ssd just wont boot (freezes on boot screen, until i re-install), it is possible thats firmware fault? Or i just coincidence? Trying again now.

Thanks again you are best, way better support than Crucial, i will never buy there again. Monday, April 28, 2014 08:59:16
David - To our knowledge, MyDigitalSSD has no future firmware updates planned for Bullet Proof series drives featuring the S5 controller.

James - Regretfully we do not support Crucial V4 drives when it comes to using the firmware provided in this post. We are sorry to hear about your slow down though and suggest contacting Crucial directly to see if they have any solutions.

Hi there,
I have such an SSD, too and am wondering about the latest FW level.
From Crucial V4 I have seen, that there is a newer version S5FAMM25 out. The V4 is based on the same controller like this one.
Are there any plans to provide this newer FW for this SSD, too?
Thanks and kind regards, David
James Thursday, April 24, 2014 18:38:08
I was able to apply this update to the Crucial V4 64GB to the 30 firmware.
I had to unplug every single SATA drive and leave the Crucial one plugged in. Use IDE mode for the SATA in bios and it flashed.

But the drive is very sluggish still. It used to have the S5FAMM25 firmware. Which also had the same issues.

Under windows 8 it says the drive is operating at 100% usage while doing simple tasks. HDD Tach says the drive is working at max 6mb a second while its busy at idle. This sluggish behavior also happened in windows 7 64bit.

I replaced it with a cheap kingston 60GB v300 which was night a day difference over Crucial's 64GB V4.

I had the same problem. I erased the files of firmware S5FAM030 from the (still bootable) usb-stick and copied the files of PhisonFW-S5FAM012 into root. Then boot and act like described in the Tutorial_MyDigitalDiscount_Firmware_Upgrade_Phison_S5.pdf.
My SSD is running without problems

This is awesome, I had a corsair nova2 60gb, which one day just stopped working. I tried to no avail to get it running again. No matter where or how I connected it, it was showing up as only the controller name ps3016s5 with a 2 megabyte capacity. I was getting ready to throw the drive away, and then stumbled upon this website, and saw that there is active development for the phison controller. I figured what the hell, my drive is dead anyway, so I copied the tools to a usb, ran the firmware flash program from DOS, and it failed after performing a few checks.

So I restarted, headed into bios, now the ssd name was not even there, so i laughed figuring I just hosed the drive.
......Then, I booted into win7 ( 840pro :] ) and next thing I know windows has detected and initialized a new disk......what????
I head over to disk management and there she is, a 59.5gb unallocated SSD ..... no way.... So I converted to MBR, formatted a simple volume, ran some benchmarks.

I don't know what the hell was wrong with the drive, but corsair is a fail, I'm never giving them a dime. They left me hanging with a broken ssd that was just 3 months old. no support, no remedy, nothing other than "RMA it, and we'll try to replace it"

anyway much love for all the people who documented, trialed and shared their knowledge. Can only send the sincerest thanks.

I hope others also are able to succeed in fixing their failed drives with the same controller.

and many thanks to , you guys truly rock!!!

Just used your firmware on my Corsair Nova 2 and it's running at full speed again! Thanks for the amazing firmware! Monday, February 10, 2014 09:00:48

Unfortunately, being a Verbatim drive, we can not honor any sort of warranty. That being said, because it has a Phison controller, there is a chance we may be able to reconfigure the drive by performing a hard reset. This involves sending the drive to us to perform the reset plus a $30 service charge.

Please note - In doing this, the information on the drive will not be recoverable and there is no guarantee it will in fact make your drive recognizable again.

We would suggest contacting Verbatim directly to see if there's anything they can do first and using the reset option above as a last resort.

If you would like to try the reset, email our tech support team at and they will help set everything up.

Had an error during upgrading process (Firmware 30). My SSD is a Verbatim 64GB. The drive is not recognized anymore (within Windows 7 on another PC). I cannot use the Firmware-Upgrade-Tool anymore - there is an error during "Preformat Device ...0%".

Is there anything i can do? Maybe a firmware upgrade force or repairing? Restoring an older version of the firmware is not possible (not recognised under Windows PE oder same error with older dos firmware).

lukas Saturday, November 16, 2013 13:52:13
just wow. Finally my corsair nova2 works fine. I could not to upgrade official firmware by corsair update tool because this app didn't see the hard drive. Thank u very much :) Monday, September 30, 2013 08:45:58

What you've described will require some troubleshooting. Please email this issue to for assistance.

I Need some help. I followed the pdf tuto and when I type ISP:
- It scans and says "Choose Device : 1.SATA 0 (Master): FW:S5FAM014 ,Model:SATA SSD"
- Then appears "Check Device Ready ..." and it waits until timeout and says "Wait Busy Time out!! Please check Device or Port Address is correct"

I'm doing that on an Asus 1201N, booting on a pen drive. My SSD is in and I selected IDE in BIOS. I also tried in AHCI just in case but then it doesn't even detects the ssd.

any clue ?

thanks Monday, September 16, 2013 11:29:36

You are correct about the partition realignment, it's almost the same as writing zeros and starting from scratch. Nothing is ever quite as efficient as the secure erase and reinstalling everything but the realignment is certainly a time saver resulting in a similar outcome.
