Synopsis: NotebookReview gets in on the action and tests out the new 256GB MyDigitalSSD Bullet Proof 3 SATA 6G mSATA SSD. Click here to see why the BP3's value to price rated 4.5 out of 5 stars!

In their latest article, NotebookReview takes a look at the new 256GB MyDigitalSSD Bullet Proof 3 (BP3) SATA III (6G) mSATA solid state drive. Here are some of the highlights...

"The BP3 drives are an ideal solution for notebooks and Ultrabooks with mSATA slots; you can install this SSD as a Windows boot drive, as a second storage drive or you can use it as a cache drive to speed up your primary hard drive give your laptop a speed boost that not only helps with productivity but lowers energy consumption and prolongs your laptop's precious battery life."

"The BP3 mSATA SSD is meant to serve as a lower cost alternative mSATA SSD and it isn't meant to compete against the fastest SATA SSDs using SandForce controllers. The key items of note with the BP3 are a capacity of up to 256GB (not common for mSATA SSDs at the time of this writing), faster performance and lower cost than a traditional SATA HDD, good reliability (MyDigitalSSD claims to have less than a 0.02% defect rate) and it likely outperforms the stock mSATA SSD shipped in current Ultrabooks or premium notebooks."

"The BP3 is backwards compatible with SATA II for older notebooks that don't have a SATA III motherboard that support 6GB/s speeds (more on that later in this review). Of course, regardless of whether you're using 3GB/s speeds or 6GB/s speeds the power consumption of the mSATA module is much lower than a traditional SATA hard drive."

"We spent a week running the drive through a serious of abuse tests -- writing, reading, and deleting hundreds of GB worth of data over and over again in our lab while repeatedly benchmarking the drive and using it as both a secondary storage drive and a Windows boot drive."

"The key takeaway from these benchmark tests is that the BP3 performs VERY well ... slightly faster than the published benchmarks on the MyDigitalSSD website."

"The bottom line regarding the BP3 mSATA SSD from MyDigitalSSD is that you now have a decent, relatively affordable option for high speed mSATA storage in a compatible Ultrabook or notebook. While this mSATA drive isn't the absolute fastest SSD on the market, it is a blazingly fast SSD compared to most mSATA drives that come inside a brand new Ultrabook."

"If you're looking for a mSATA SSD for your laptop then the MyDigitalSSD BP3 deserves to be at the top of your list."
