Secure Digital (SD) cards are the standard storage medium for digital SLR cameras as their slim and compact design, weighing less than two grams and approximately the size of a postage stamp, allows for easy handling.

SD memory cards can be used in a variety of mobile devices including camcorders, GPS devices, mobile phones, personal media players, notebooks and laptops, making them useful as a "bridge media" that can be used to move data between products. This allows for a storage option for multiple products or an easy way to transfer media files from device to device with the use of an adapter or card reader.
