The side of this adapter where you put the mSATA drive is the side of the SATA connector that corresponds to the bottom of a 2.5" HDD. Thus, the spring clips that hold the mSATA drive in place are extend about 2.6mm further from the connector; the bottom of a regular hard drive is flush with the connector. Unless the SATA connection you have can float up and down, this will probably mean that this adapter will not be flat, but will screw down at a bit of an angle. This wasn't a problem for me using it in a Lenovo ThinkPad ultrabay adapter just to upgrade from an Intel 80GB to a Runcore 120GB mSATA SSD, but I'd be concerned about it in a permanent installation. Make sure you don't screw it down too tight and flex the board or even crack something.
