Just came here to say thanks for having better support here than by a company with at least ten times your size. Such a shame for Verbatim.

I have a Verbatim 64 GB SSD Sata II (Product Number: 47473) and I had never upgraded the firmware since I bought the SSD.

Must say that after upgrading to S5FAM030 the behavior it's completely different. No hanging times, faster boot and faster response.

The tutorial it's also quite complete. (I would just suggest to make a guide for how to clone the SSD content and move it back again after firmware upgrade)

Once again thanks for your work,
Regards. Monday, January 21, 2013 08:22:40

We're happy to hear your laptop is running smoothly but we are not provided change logs for our updates.

The last few updates have mostly addressed speed issues that have arisen during use but the next release, FW V4.6, will focus on compatibility issues, even faster speeds, overprovisioning, and increased lifespan. Stay tuned to our Twitter @MyDigital for more details this week.

Flashed successfully my V4 256Gb. Works good on my Laptop. Is it possible to read changelog of this firmware over previous versions. Thanks in advance! Tuesday, January 15, 2013 11:43:08
ticoloco - Those are unusual results and could even have something to do with the type of data/information populating the SSD. Please contact with more details, including what exactly the drive is being used for, and we'll do our best to help you find a solution to this issue.

Papa Hobbit - We've had success with Verbatim drives in the past but, unfortunately, we do not have the knowledge base of their products to tell you if something has changed where this firmware upgrade no longer works with their products.

Because we do not deal directly with Verbatim, you'll need to contact them directly for further assistance.

The firmware S5FAM030 can not install on the Verbatim 128 GB Black. After entering the "ISP" software crash after some time. I have tried in bios IDE, RAID and AHCI.
My board is an Intel DP35DP.

The S5FAM030 works wonders for the Crucial v4. If anyone has a changelog, please post it!

Think I might have a lemon MyDigitalSSD BP 128GB microSATA. Lenovo T410s sometimes becomes barely useable with these results despite 030 FW:

seq: 32 ; 7
512K: 22 ; 4
4K: 0.7 ; 1.2
QD32: 64 ; 11

At other times, I get more "normal" results:

seq: 224 ; 93
512K: 152 ; 57
4K: 8 ; 13
QD32: 64 ; 18

Using CrystalDiskMark. Drive has 110GB of 119GB in use. Am using Windows 8 x64.

Any ideas? Any other test I could run to diagnose what might be wrong? Taskmanager doesn't show any fishy programs hogging the drive, instead showing it's often reading at 100% at 1 MB/s.

Hi Folk Thanks for Your S5 Firmware My Intenso SSD 32 GB is now a rocket. Before the max speed was in read/rite approx. 40 MB/S, now its over 130MB/S.

Thanks a lot Wednesday, January 2, 2013 08:40:08
AY - Thank you for the tips, we're glad to hear the firmware has helped.

Fabio - That's great to hear!

PALOY - We're happy to hear your notebook is running smoother. As far as freeware goes, here are a few trusted programs we like to use.

1. For unbuffered speed results, we use CrystalDiskMark.
2. For buffered speed results showing the drive's maximum potential, we use ATTO Benchmark.
3. For SSD firmware and feature information, we use CrystalDiskInfo.

Regarding life span and current status on the life of the SSD, we have yet to find a truly accurate program but we're always on the lookout.
PALOY Sunday, December 30, 2012 06:48:01

First, thank you for the 030 firmware, my DELL now it's working without freezing.

Can you recommend some freewares to check the SSD, I have tried some without success.

Worked with my Verbatim 128Gb drive, using FW 030, ide mode, and the DOS updater, disk is MUCH better now in sequential R/W like a previous user said it makes the hardware worth the purchase :)

AY Friday, December 28, 2012 13:02:20
S5FAM030_FW works awhole better for Crucial V4 256GB in a Dell E4310. Less frequent locks up. Upgraded from stock FAM022 to FAM030. In the bios, ATA must be selected before it'd recognize the drive. Also, disable caching in Windows. Wednesday, December 26, 2012 08:45:21

Please make sure the drive you are trying to update is the only drive installed in the computer. For further troubleshooting, please contact our support team via email using

hello I can't install the new firmware with my SSD 128GB from Verbatim. every time saying no valid sata. Can you make a tutorial using the windows PE method of 017? Will it work? don't know how I can install it all- Thank you for your help.
Ola Thursday, December 13, 2012 13:39:40
I had the same problem as Kres describes above. I realized that I had the DVD-reader still plugged in.

After I removed it I was prompted with the "No valid SATA Device Exist !". I tried Steven's command exactly as it was specified. Ended up with a blinking cursor and a black screen.

Restarted and tried again. I realized I did only have one master device and not a master and a slave.
I changed the command to

dlmc 0x1f0 -master

And it worked as a charm. Now I will test the performance. Thank you for the command Steven! Thursday, December 13, 2012 08:44:06
jianming chen,

thanks for you posting the new FW,i upgraded FW with to SSD in ACER-S3-391,it worked well, when i upgraded with, there is no information about SSD(DOS or WIN7) ,how can i save the SSD? thanks a lot! Monday, December 10, 2012 08:08:36
Verbatim user,

Verbatim uses the Phison controller, the same controller found in select MyDigitalSSD drives.

While not the absolute fastest on the market, the Phison controller runs much more efficiently, meaning it takes less voltage which results in longer battery life when using it on a laptop and also a lesser chance of the unit overheating. This also results in the drive lasting longer.

Basically, you have the choice of paying more for a drive that will perform a little faster with a higher chance for failure or paying less for a fast, reliable, and energy saving SSD like Phison offers.

When it comes to conventional use, the only way you'd really notice the speed difference between Phison and another controller-driven SSD is if you spent all running bench tests.
Verbatim user Thursday, December 6, 2012 07:44:10
thanx a lot for this update for FW30!
Now it is running fine and does not "hang" in Windows.
Though, it seems to me that other SSD offer much more speed.
Only 5 MB/s for"4k" in benchmark is rather bad. Why do other SSD offer here a value of around 100 MB/s?
Is the HW so bad from verbatim?

Hi, I updated my 64GB Intenso SSD from S5FAM017 to S5FAM030.

512K: 157 ; 170
4K: 11 ; 43
QD32: 71 ; 51

seq: 250 ; 194
512K: 157 ; 156
4K: 10 ; 43
QD32: 70 ; 44

there ist noch effect from 012 to 030.

Intenso 64GB SSD with Phison. Tuesday, November 13, 2012 11:46:26

Yes, you can. We've tested Windows 8 in-house and you should have no problems with installation. Enjoy!
Rene Monday, November 12, 2012 21:07:51
Hi, if I do a firmware of the disc, can i install windows 8 with out problems? any one on w8 with this firmware? Thank you
Klaus Tuesday, November 6, 2012 10:43:27
FW-Update 030 works great!
After backing up Systemdisk C: with Acronis True Image 2013 the firmware update was done within round about 30 seconds. After restore performace is explicitly better than with my old firmware 012.
Thanks for your work and support. Great!
Friendly regards,

Thanks to all of team and users that send their experience, now i´d upgraded to FW30 my Verbatim 120gb black edition. But until that you provide didn´t work, every time saying no valid sata. Then i instaled other disk in other socket with windows 8, and instal with WinPE from verbatim , but first i made a backup with acronis backup software.
(thanks to FRENCH) ``You can update to 030 using the windows PE method of 017 (or booting with an other disk in Windows, jut not use the SSD you want to update as system drive and make sure your are in AHCI mode)
here is the windows (PE) 030 firmware (it is from verbatim, but it is the same for all drives with Phison controllers)´`

Know i´ve a new disk, no more lags.

Bonjour, j'ai changé d’ordinateur et miracle cela à marché !
Merci pour votre firmware efficace ! Wednesday, October 17, 2012 08:36:16

When updating your Firmware, what you need to do is backup your information, settings, and data because upgrading will erase your drive. Backing up a copy of an older FW update will not be necessary as 030 is the best Firmware to have for your drive.

While we do have links to previous FW versions on this post, the only one you will need it 030.
Abraham Tuesday, October 16, 2012 14:21:50
Hi, how do I make a backup of my SSD firmware. I would really like to make a backup before updating the SSD firmware. I have S5FAM016 and can't find a copy anywhere on the internet. Monday, October 15, 2012 08:23:14

We'd first need to know what make/model SSD you're upgrading and whether older Firmware versions installed successfully.

Please send that information along with any further information possible to and we'll try to help you troubleshoot the issue.

J'ai essayé d'installer le firmware S5FAM030 mais lorsque je lance la commande pour effectuer la MAJ, je reste bloqué pendant des heures avec le message ISP Prog PRAM Code...
