Product Description

The Next Generation of Bullet Proof SSD Upgrades Have Arrived

MyDigitalSSD proudly introduces the BP4 Slim 7 Series, the 4th generation of their critically acclaimed and award-winning Bullet Proof line of solid state drives.

BP4 Slim 7 drives are easy to install SATA III (6G) replacement upgrades designed to eliminate the bottle-neck found in stock hard drives to increase user productivity up to 70X.

Unlike their predecessors, BP4 drives have been over provisioned for improved Random Read/Write performance and IOPS, extended performance endurance to reduce sluggishness as the drive fills with data, prolonged drive life, reliability, and low power consumption - all at the unequaled price to performance ratio synonymous with MyDigitalSSD Bullet Proof SSDs.

Backwards compatible with SATA II applications; BP4 Slim 7 drives feature a 9.5mm drive screw hole alignment to upgrade virtually any notebook with a 2.5" SATA port or SATA desktop workstation using a standard mounting adapter bracket, PC or Mac.

About the Controller

MyDigitalSSD BP4 SSDs feature the Phison S-Module III S8 controller to deliver all the advantages of Flash Disk technology with the Serial ATA III interface, fully compliant with standard mSATA form factor. The S-Module III S8 is based on the mSATA form factor which is generated by JEDEC, designed to operate at a maximum operating frequency of 300MHz with 40MHz external crystal.

The S8 can reach 500MB/s throughput based on ONFI/Toggle NAND (with DDR3 cache enabled and measured by CrystalDiskMark) with markedly lower power consumption than that of a traditional Hard Drive.

Note: Solid State Drives DO NOT require defragmentation. It may decrease the lifespan of the drive.

The MyDigitalSSD BP4 is a great drive to upgrade any computer. I had the pleasure of upgrading my MacBook Pro with this drive. My goal is to write this review to better inform those who are looking to upgrade their Macs to a faster system with a solid state drive.

The drives appearance is very sleek, and is one of the slimmer ones out there at 7mm. Installing it was relatively simple on my 13 MBP. I simply opened up the bottom case of the computer, removed the old hard drive, transferred 4 pegs to the new SSD, and placed it back in. I then formatted the drive and installed OS X 10.9 Mavericks as a clean install.

In terms of the performance the average consumer will notice with this drive, all I can say is WOW. My computer boot time, from cold start to usable, went from around 3 minutes and 30 seconds to less than 30. All my apps and programs load up almost instantaneously. My computer feels brand new. Programs that have typically slowed down my computer, like iMovie or iPhoto run smoothly with no hiccups on this drive. Also, a big plus is that my computer stays relatively cooler with this drive in place.

Speed Tests:
The drive comes over provisioned at 240GB (versus 256GB) so that consumers can have the maximum performance and lifetime with this drive. MyDigitalSSD advertises the read/write speeds of this drive at 560 MB/s and 530 MB/s at its max, respectively. Its important to note that real-world tests wont typically come close to these maximum values for ANY drive. In my tests, real-world speeds were very close to those projected by the experts who have reviewed this drive, with sequential read coming in at around 465 MB/s (expert says 472 MB/s) and write at 402 MB/s (expert says 391 MB/s). For the average consumer simply looking to upgrade their computer, these speeds are excellent and will definitely do the job.

It also supports TRIM, which I enabled simply by entering a few lines of commands in Terminal. You can find this through a simple google search. I found after enabling TRIM, the drive seemed snappier upon boot up.

MyDigitalSSD mentions that these drives feature low power consumption for better battery life. In my tests, this was definitely the case. Before the upgrade, I got about 5 hours of battery life out of my aging computer. Now, I get about 6 - a whole hour increase.

The BP4 is extremely competitively priced, and is much less than many of the so-called leading drives out there. That money you save from purchasing this drive can be used for another upgrade, or to buy an enclosure for your old hard drive. This drive definitely gives great value for your money. I highly recommend it, and from reading other reviews, Im sure you will not be disappointed in the long term, either.
