mSATA solid state drives are some of the hottest SSDs on the market today, popping up in a variety of the latest mobile devices, netbooks, and notebook PCs. As time goes on, more and more people are catching wind of the SSD trend, which is no surprise to us since the performance of these drives are head and shoulders above the rest. There is really so much to love about these mSATAs - the difference is very noticeable when a small PC notebook using an mSATA SSD can boot-up and load applications faster than a top-of-the-line HDD desktop only five years ago.

At My Digital Discount, we have had a number of customers ask us if their computers are mSATA compatible. The following is a list of some of the most popular mSATA compatible models being used today:

Rick,

If your SSD is a Samsung XP941 then you will need a PCIe SSD. If not, it will qualify for a SATA M.2 NGFF 40mm SSD.

You can check the make and model in the "Device Manager" on Windows.

Miguel - After a bit of research, we couldn't find any mention of your E6228 being mSATA compatible. Sorry about that.

------------------------------

Kenji_Shinja - The best way to get a leg up in gaming is to have the best video card on the market, which the Apache already does.

RAM will not help games load faster. It will help graphic intensive games run a little smoother, but not much.

If you're looking for faster load times, an SSD will help in that area, allowing you to be one of the first people to join a server and things of that nature. Having a RAID is what's helping run everything so smoothly for you right now.

While MSI's website states you can only use up to 256GB, we'd venture a guess that larger capacities (512GB) would work as well seeing as 256GB drives were the largest capacity available upon the GE70 2PE's release.

If you're looking to upgrade, we suggest trying MyDigitalSSD BP4e mSATA drives found in the link below. Hope that helps!

Hi,
I would like to ask about my laptop (MSI GE70 2PE) :
1) Which one is better to improve gaming performance either make super raid 128GB (2x64) or add one more 8GB ram ? I'm heavy gamer, always set Ultra setting.Currently my laptop running smooth.Any effect will do ?
2) What are those msata that support my laptop ?

Dears, I have a Medion Akoya E6228 Notebook and want to know if this works with mSATA on Mini PCIe Slot.
MyDigitalDiscount.com Tuesday, January 6, 2015 08:53:31
Arun - We aren't aware of any known issues with the M550 that would prevent it from working. mSATA installation on the G55VW can be a bit tricky though, please refer to the link below before upgrading.

------------------------------

dave - If your device is mSATA compatible, then any 50mm mSATA drive should work. There are no brand-specific incompatibilities that we're aware of regarding mSATA.

The big question is whether the slot in your V5-473P-5602 is mSATA or True mini PCIe, which looks similar to mSATA but has a different pin configuration. We would suggest getting confirmation, on what type of slot that is, from Acer directly before placing any order.
dave Monday, January 5, 2015 22:56:42
I have an Acer Aspire V5-473P-5602 with a msata slot. My question is, would any msata made specifically for notebooks work? Crucial, Samsung etc? I checked the compatibility on Crucial's site and its stating its incompatible with my Acer. Aren't all 50mm mSata's the same when it comes to size and compatibility?
Arun Saturday, January 3, 2015 00:05:21
Crusial M550 mSATA is compatible with Asus G55VW?
MyDigitalDiscount.com Monday, December 29, 2014 08:37:11
mauritz,

We're sorry, we can't find any mention of the HP Pavilion 15-n203ed being mSATA compatible.

You can, however, replace your existing 2.5" drive with an mSATA drive by pairing it with an adapter found in the link below.

I have a HP Pavilion 15-n203ed.
Is this compatible with a samsung 840evo msata?
MyDigitalDiscount.com Tuesday, December 16, 2014 08:11:24
Maciek Ziuzia - We couldn't find confirmation either but, based on the XT3 i7's specifications, it seems like it should be possible.

For further assistance, please contact our Tech Support team directly at info@mydigitaldiscount.com.

------------------------------

Jerry - Under $60, the largest capacity you'll find currently is a 64GB.

http://www.mydigitaldiscount.com/solid-state-drives-sata-m.2-ngff-ssd/?xsearch_price=20.00-50.00

If you're willing to spend an additional $5 to $10 you can double the storage capacity with a 128GB.

I have DELL XT3 (I7 version) model with half mini msata slot (with sign SSD) but I cannot find any note if this slot is bootable and can use operating system.

MyDigitalDiscount.com Tuesday, December 9, 2014 08:42:56
ShermanTseng - Yes, it actually uses 2 mSATA drives in RAID 0 to make either a 128GB (two 64GB drives) or 256GB (two 128GB drives) Ultrabook.

Thank you for bringing that to our attention! We've added the S5 to our list.

------------------------------

arlbe - Looking around online, we've seen other 350 G1 users unable to boot from the mSATA drive but our Tech Support team is willing to help you try and find a work around if you're interested in testing it out.

As far as a boot drive recommendation, MyDigitalSSD BP4 drives found in the link below should give you the best results.

http://www.mydigitaldiscount.com/mydigitalssd-msata-ssd/?&sort=alphaaz&sort_direction=0&xsearch_e11=MyDigitalSSD%20BP4

------------------------------

Vince - The E5420 does not have an mSATA slot. You can however remove your optical drive bay and add a second 2.5" HDD or SSD with the use of a hard drive caddy.

mSATA drives can be converted to 2.5" SATA drives, without effecting performance, by using the adapter enclosure in the link below.

http://www.mydigitaldiscount.com/mydigitalssd-msata-to-2.5-inch-sata-iii-6g-ssd-adapter-enclosure/

------------------------------

omdy - No. You would actually need a 'True miniPCIe' card and they do not exist as an SSD.
omdy Monday, December 8, 2014 19:32:01
Hi! I have a Sony VGN-TXN15p. I don't need the Sprint card in a free Mini PCIe slot. I'm not sure if it's mSATA compatible, but wouldn't a PATA-Mini PCIe work? The machine already takes PATA 50pin 1.8 HD. It should theoretically work, and even be bootable. Am I correct?
Vince Monday, December 8, 2014 10:35:15
Hi, does the Delll Lattitude E5420 support mSATA?

Thanks.
arlbe Sunday, December 7, 2014 07:24:48
Hp 350 G1, would like to know if onboard msata slot can be used as a boot drive? and what is recommended.
ShermanTseng Friday, December 5, 2014 19:24:24
Hi, Does Acer Aspire S5-391 use mSata SSD? Thanks.
MyDigitalDiscount.com Wednesday, December 3, 2014 12:34:50
Jacob - If you can, please send photos of the slot to our Tech Support Team at info@mydigitaldiscount.com. They should be able to better answer your question after seeing those.

------------------------------

Doshunn - We couldn't find any mention of the L750/755 being mSATA compatible so we're leaning towards no. You may want to contact Toshiba directly to confirm that though.
Doshunn Wednesday, December 3, 2014 12:02:52
Hi there, does my Toshiba Satellite L750/755 have mSATA?
Thanks !
Jacob Tuesday, December 2, 2014 15:36:39
I'm staring at what looks like an mSATA slot with the peg and screws and everything near the southbridge chip on my hp Pavilion dv7-3160us
Product WA793UA#ABA. Your list says only pavilion dv6's. Is there such a thing as an mSATA slot you can't use for a ssd??
MyDigitalDiscount.com Monday, December 1, 2014 15:23:43
Chris - Thank you for bringing that to our attention, the XT2 is not mSATA compatible. We have adjusted our list accordingly.

------------------------------

RayK - You can install an mSATA, not microSATA, SSD in the WWAN slot of your E6540 as seen in the link below.

http://www.laptopultra.com/guide/how-to-disassemble-dell-latitude-e6540-to-add-ssd-and-upgrade-ram-memory/

If you have any issues with the drive being recognized in the BIOS, contact out Tech Support team at info@mydigitaldiscount.com and they'll help walk you through it.

------------------------------

Gunter - Yes, it certainly is! Thank you for the heads up, we've added it to our list.

------------------------------

Manu - We can't find anything that would lead us to believe the k112tx is mSATA compatible. Your best bet for increased performance is upgrading your Envy's hard drive with an SSD.
Manu Monday, December 1, 2014 14:31:55
Does the hp envy k112tx have msata ssd slot or anyway of adding one to it for fast boot n app loading ?
Gunter Saturday, November 29, 2014 15:26:39
I have a Toshiba kirabook. Is it compatible with the mSATA SSDs?
RayK Friday, November 28, 2014 19:08:47
I have a Dell Latitude E6540 and I would like to install a microSATA card in the WWAN slot. Can you confirm that it will be recognized by the BIOS and can I boot from this card?
Chris Thursday, November 27, 2014 16:08:06
I own a Dell Latitude XT2. It is on this list. Are you trying to say the WWAN Port will run mSATA = Mini sata = wifi card looking thing? Not uSATA = micro sata = 1.8 drive under the battery. Very commonly mislabeled.
MyDigitalDiscount.com Tuesday, November 25, 2014 07:47:17
Mike,

The UX31A actually has a proprietary SSD that is neither mSATA or M.2 NGFF compatible. To our knowledge, there are no 3rd party upgrades available at this time.
Mike Monday, November 24, 2014 15:11:46
Is the ASUS Zenbook UX31A mSATA compatible or is it NGFF? If so, would the Plextor PX-256M5M 256GB SATA III 6.0Gb/s mSATA work?
MyDigitalDiscount.com Wednesday, November 19, 2014 07:44:50
Bogdan,

From what we could find, your best bet when upgrading the Flex 2 is to replace the hard drive with a 2.5" SATA SSD.
Bogdan Wednesday, November 19, 2014 00:32:56
Lenovo flex 2 15 with i5 4210u and bga1168 socket , does it has msata slot for ssd? Or i just need to replace it with the hdd? Thanks
